Our chickens really like eating the Jap Beetles. I try to pick em smack em and feed em. Sometimes some get away.

So we are going to Lubec this Sunday the 24th. Last call for some eggs if they are available.muddyhooffarm.vpweb.com They also have an add in craigslist.We will be passing Augusta on the way back and on Monday I will be In Biddeford for work.

Think of it. You can get eggs without them being shipped so that right there is a plus. You know you want what they have. I'm sure there is room in the incubator. Besides you don't want all the other eggs that are being picked up there to be lonely do you? And if a buckling stows away in the car then you just have to take him.

Oh, man. I'm going to have to seriously look at their egg list. I know there would be no guarantees on availability, but I was going to set some of my own on the 22nd. Maybe I could delay a couple of days.... I really don't need anything, but that is definitely tempting.

Forgot to say that our chickens will eat Japanese beetles, but they sometimes don't act fast enough and they fly away.

We had some Delawares here that ate jap beetles like they were skittles-- that was our joke. We could even take them out in the garden with us and point to them and they would snap them up or wait below us to get the ones we dropped and then snap them out of our hands. We found too that if we went out early before the mist was gone and knocked them or shook the beetles into a jar or can and then shook it hard to stun the beetles first we could dump them on the ground and the chickens would all eat them up. It only takes ONE chicken to show the others the way. My Marans were little then and they ate them too.

Just so you know we might get attached to this buckling and you might have to fight us. We would be attached( lubec is 4 hrs away) and our parenting instincts would kick in. Just saying. Or maybe he will be loud and crazy and then it will probably be a 3 hr trip instead!
