Maine

We were NPIP certified at the Farmington Fair Ground last year. No adult birds brought into flock since. Only bought chicks from TSC. Not really familiar on all the ins and outs of NPIP as to how long certification is good for. We have 2 2 year old bantam cochins (pair hen gold laced and roo partridge). 6 white Leghorn chicks 5 weeks old, 2 barred rock/x chicks 5 weeks old from our own hatching. A Phoenix looking hen about a year old loayng. An Orloff hen about a year old laying. 2 EE hens one lays blue the other olive.

You are still good - chicks bought from feed stores are from hatcheries and they are NPIP tested per federal regulations - do you have baby ducks - I have lots of people asking me where they can find some - if you do post on the Wilton Swap site https://www.facebook.com/groups/358608147587817/ -

Are you coming to Swap Saturday - I am interested in a couple more Leghorns for white eggs - I have 2 in my flock right now.

No baby ducks yet. Have a half dozen in the bator. Apple-yard/ KahkiCampbell mixes still about 2 weeks out. Probably will bring some stuff to the TSC swap on Sat.

ok stay tuned to the facebook page - it might rain on Sat and we will have Rain date on Sun - I am going to post it today after I check weather again later - see you soon!

I have a breeder looking for a Buff Brahma Roo and a Black Americauna Roo - must be NPIP Certified. Throwing it out there if anyone raises them.

Also - a gentlemen came to the Wilton Swap asking if I knew anyone who might have a Rosecomb RIR Roo AND he is looking to rehome a 1 year old Buff Brahma Roo - said he is a very big boy.

I am thinking about trying my hand at hatching. I've seen posts about humidity etc- it does look a bit scary... any insights would be great! I have been looking into incubators etc, they do look a bit pricey.
if you're at all handy, you can build an incubator for not a lot of money. The most expensive item is the thermostat which is about 16$. You can get an old computer fan for about 2$. You'll need a 12V convertor to wire the fan to. If you don't have a cooler to use... (check with local pharmacies, pet shops,or even buy a cheap styrofoam cooler) Some people use 2 cardboard boxes with wadded newspaper between them for insulation. Then you'll need a couple of light bulbs. I used 2 40 W bulbs. There are tons of sites that give explicit directions. I did dry incubation with good results. Goal to keep humidity between 25 - 40% through day 19, then increase to 65%. I actually let my humidity drop down to 12 - 15% before bumping it back up. You might want to use cheap eggs for your first hatch. Go for it!

At the top of this page is a section that says coops. It also has alot of ideas for incubators from using the coolers to more elaborate ones. They also give the directions to make them.
