Maine

I thought the other day that my EE had finally laid a full-sized egg, but this AM when I cracked it open, it was a double-yolker. That was a pretty cool way to start the day! It made a tasty omelet, too.

My Mom bottle raised a baby grey squirrel when I was a kid. The cat brought him in out of a nest. He didn't have any fur and his eyes weren't opened at the time. She had to get up to feed him about every 2 hours during the night. He would scream bloody murder when he was hungry. We kept him until he started chewing electrical cords and eating all the buttons off my Dad's shirts. Then he went to live on a game farm in the Portland area. You can bottle feed him with the powdered formula for kittens found in the pet stores. I don't know how long they nurse. why are they so cute at that stage, and such horrible pests when they're adults... getting into the bird feeders and destroying stuff?
I became the proud adopted mama of an orphan red squirrel this afternoon. So far he is doing well. I told the kids that if he makes it to this weekend they can name him.

I am guessing him to be about three weeks old. Found in the road by someone down the street. I got the call as soon as I poured a glass of wine, put my feet up and announced that I was relaxing for the evening.
My hubby is so not pleased with me right now. I opened up a lot of ant hills in the back yard for the girls. They chowed the ants, but I have not put the huge divots back yet. The back yard looks like a moon scape.
Ditto on the purchased sod! Word to the wise--Do NOT dig a hole in the path of the lawnmower! DH wasn't too happy. I thought I did a pretty good job of filling the hole with dirt. Sheesh!

I use my weeds for this as well as all the grass clumps from the flower beds. Glad to hear Miss Jasmine laid an egg! I think she was taking a break possibly a mini-molt.
Congrats on the EE egg. One of my girls (1/2 sister to yours

) frequently lays a huge egg. One of the last big ones she laid is so large that the lid won't close on a large egg carton. All of her big eggs are dbl yolkers.

even though I've been out of the rehab loop for a little over a year, I thankfully had squirrel formula on hand. It expires next month. This little guy can start trying solids in about a month. Until then, he lays on my chest on a faux fur blanket and drinks from a syringe. He's already got it figured out. At 5 months we will move him to an outdoor cage where we will begin to reintegrate him to the wild.

Finally able to take some pictures again. SO many changes to the little ones.
One interesting mix of a half white silkie with a super black green egg layer came out with the deep black and even more white feathers.
So pretty.

Looking forward to playing around with the genetics of the white on black traits

Somebody posted a link to a temporary fence made from 2x4 lumber with a cross brace at the bottom and a wooden turn latch at the top to just hold the fencing material against the wood. It is being sold by a company, I believe. I cannot find it again, to save my life, so I'm asking in every thread I subscribe to. If you posted it or saw it, please direct me to it, again. Thanks so much!

.....And to our delight, Jasmine laid an egg today as well! SO happy about this!

Here's a questions for you all. We have a rooster growing...I think he's part Faverolle cause on one foot there is an extra toe. He is beautiful. Will he be as aggressive to the girls as my Light Brahma Roo was? The LB Roo tore off all their back feathers.

And does anyone know of a place to rent a chicken plucker near Bangor?
