Maine

Ash thanks I would love the info for him. Hrmmmm if the Chanties are known for broodyness I may hold off until I am ready to expand the flock even more.

I have this killer flu that most of the country is suffering from. it is the first cold i have had in about 3 years and by far the WORST! UGH!
So sorry to hear that you are sick. I hear that CHICKEN soup is great for that sort of thing!!!

I think of it this way, if the shipping workers are unhappy about something or in a hurry, fragile items don't mean much, especially if they know they won't get caught (I know they don't all feel like this but it happens, we've all seen it on you tube). I feel it's better for them not to know.

I haven't seen this on youtube! ...Going now.

I have called all over central maine trying to find the nasal flu vaccine for the kids, no one has any. anybody know of a place in your area to get it? i've called osco, walgreens, cvs, rite aid, from augusta to belfast to bangor. I have a call into the local hospital. some places do have the interdermal, but kids can't get that one.

my kids are a bit too big to wrestle and have not forgotten the last shot they had which apparently really hurt.

In the future, I always get my nasal flu vaccine at Shaws in Waterville on KMD. The pharmacist there is nice and orders it special for me every October (each box has 10 doses) and he usually has to outdate the rest of the box at the end of the season. He would love to get rid more doses instead of throwing them away...

Mine just had theirs a month ago at Penobscot Pediatrics on Union St. in Bangor

That is very weird.  You'd think people would be extra careful with eggs... these were labeled as hatching eggs.  Oh well as long as a few hatch out I'll be happy.  :)

Well they must be being VERY careful with mine, they have been in Maine for 3 days now, they were supposed to be delivered by yesterday, according to the USPS tracking info online. Maybe they are going to hatch them for me...grrrrrr

keric I'd say it's probably the shipping. I'd had terrible hatches from shipped eggs and then some good ones. usually the boxes that are labelled hatching eggs, don't make it. I never have people label my egg shipments with any more then protect from freezing.
I called the local hospital, they have nasal flu vaccine and will fit me and the kids in

I am sorry but maybe you didn't see the news bit about how the flu that is so scarey right now is also NOT covered in the vaccines being administered now. I am in the at risk group so... sucks to be me :)

I am eager to see some of these baby pics. I also decided turner or not I am going to attempt an incubation again. Wish me luck. I have an LG and am outfitting with fan so hopefully the circulating air will help... and turning... yeah, I don't know how often that is supposed to happen but hopefully just once or twice a day.

you need to turn them an odd number of times/day and 5 is better then 2 (remember hens sit on the eggs, but they don't sit still)
were you referring about my baby pictures? these were hatched last week, more are hatching today

about the flu vaccine, i don't normally get it but a child local to us died and I figure every yr just prior to feb vacation flu gets really bad at my kids school, doing what I can to protect my kids short of home schooling.

Ashandvine, where did you hear that the flu vaccine does not cover the strain of flu circulating? I read that this year's flu is not H1N1, but a different strain that hasn't circulated in a long time (so few people have immunity). The shot is supposed to protect against both of these, in addition to a third strain.

The vaccine is not perfect. But if you have the vaccine and still get the flu, it is supposed to be less severe.

I've seen a couple different news stories about the flu and stomach flu. One on the regular seasonal flu (cough, sneezing, aching body)and the other on the norovirus (aka cruise ship virus that has the vomiting and diarrhea). For the first this year's vaccine is very effective but takes up to two weeks for the body to develop the antibodies once you get the vaccine. And it does depend on the individual and their immune system. The second has no vaccine to prevent it and you can get it more than once. Of course neither is fun to go through. I was fortunate and got my flu shot back in October.
