I have heard of both Chesterville & Mariaville but I'm a trivia freak. I always thought Chesterville was named after Chester Greenfield, inventor of the ear muffs, but I don't think it was.

I just thought that I would show everyone what my husband and I did for nesting boxes. The chickens love them and they are so easy to clean.
Very cool, Kinsey!! Awesome job!!

Are those Guinea Hens checking out the boxes? We had some lavender ones out in Mariaville and I just loved them! They are so funny!

Those guineas are long gone.

I'm great at cutting and pasting.
Chesterville was first known as Wyman’s Plantation from its pioneer settler, Abraham Wyman, who commenced his plantation in the southern part of the town in 1782. He was followed in 1783 by Samuel Linscott and Dummer Sewall, who built mills near the centre of the township, designating their settlement as Chester Plantation.

greenwood was from Farmington, maybe he's somehow related

It's been a long time since I've posted, but wondering how the folks made out who bought my Pekins from Monroe? Are the still around or did you eat them, or what? Know I gave you all girls, hope you are getting the eggs like I am, mine are laying like crazy, all winter long, some twice a day. I hope you did well with them, the remaining ones here are a good bunch, and Lucky the drake is happy with his harem. They are getting possessive of their eggs tho, and Lucky will attempt to roll them back into the nests when I pull them out. Guess something's up, and will leave a clutch and see what happens. The girls get pretty PO'ed when I take the eggs and pull at my clothes. Must be a community effort, so will let them do their thing. They do seem to tend to that one spot as a whole. Should be interesting. The eggs they don't want, they lay wherever, so will gather those. Just wondering how you all made out, and if you still have them, hope they are happy and healthy as mine, and got thru the winter ok.

I once had 2 mallards share the same clutch. Between them, they sat on 24 eggs and all hatched except for 2. It was a hoot to watch them, cause they'd do their little ducky conversation back and forth, and if an egg happened to stick out from under one duck, the other one would grab it and pull it under herself. When the eggs hatched, one duck took off and left ALL of the mothering duties to the other. Do ducks commonly do the community nest thing??

well im getting chickens soon. after a 3 month absence with moving and getting settled. today I ordered 16 pullets ready for pickup at the farm on the 2nd week of april . they will be 8 weeks old. im getting 8 black sexlinks and 8 barred rocks. also will probably get 6 California leghorns from another place as well. I have 6 weeks to convert a 8x16 gambrel shed into a coop. just need to put in a couple windows and put a door on and some ventilation .
