Maine

I'm great at cutting and pasting.

Chesterville was first known as Wyman’s Plantation from its pioneer settler, Abraham Wyman, who commenced his plantation in the southern part of the town in 1782. He was followed in 1783 by Samuel Linscott and Dummer Sewall, who built mills near the centre of the township, designating their settlement as Chester Plantation.

greenwood was from Farmington, maybe he's somehow related

Thank you for the history lesson, hoppy!

Ahh Wyman Plantation...Wyman Dam...I see now. Dummer...what a name! I wonder where that came from? I knew Greenwood was from Farmington but I thought maybe they were so happy with his invention that they named a town after him.

thank you. i've not had much luck hatching blrw this yr.

Quote: I hope you have better luck with the BLRWs, Kinsey! I had the impression that the rooster wasn't really doing his job, but I got mine earlier in February, so conditions are likely improving with the longer days.

Funny, I had not set out to get any BLRWs, but with an assortment, I found myself rooting for each individual breed. And they are very pretty.

I won't be hatching any of those, nor any BCMs, if my candling is correct. And the Welsummers weren't laying at all when I ordered. I think one Barnevelder might be developing. Plenty of other Marans, OE, and Ameraucanas.

I love assortments! I would do this again.

All of this hatching is exciting. Ash; good luck and I am excited to see how these assortments turn out!

I think my little partridge rocks are molting. There are feathers everywhere in the coop and today I saw wing feathers falling out. Also had a sudden drop in egg production from everyone. I assume all of them are about to molt. They are all about 9 months old. Can I worm them when they are molting since I am not getting many eggs anyhow, or will it stress them out?

I want barnevelders and Marans, so I figured this was cheaper than getting a dozen of each. I wouldn't mind an OE or Ameraucana either. I am such a sucker for pretty eggs, chicks, chickens, etc. Maybe that's why the hubby hates it when I go to swaps....

Just downsizing...roos too noisy. Between neighbor complaints, helping dh with our business, being a full time student and 7 kids it's too CRAZY :)

What are the chances someone would want to help (get paid) me get four geese here? I know this is a long shot but if I ask SO he is going to say no and these are such a deal. I almost bought some of these geese last year, twice, but didn't. I know why.... the man has offered me the breeding group of four for free because he wants them to live on a farm and be bred which is what I wanted them for too! You might recall I TRIED getting geese but the man sold me crosses at a terrible rip off price and so they were returned. They were sweet, but.... Anyway. I have a dog carrier but no truck or van to do the actual moving anymore. An, again, I know this is a long shot, but I had to try.

I did get the best Marans egg so far today which tickles me. Its only a strong five but nice size. The Favs are laying too and the cockerel in there does the shuffle :) My Blue Am cockerel was heard by me crowing for the first two times yesterday (a funny strangled sound with all the promise of hormones) an so now... if only the Orloff hadn't died. The pullets and hens are laying so well in there!

You know, crosses can be fun. I have one here who is a Brabanter Orloff cross and she is lovely. I don't want to part with her just for that reason. She is small and doesn't quite fit in but her lovely self is a delight to my eye.

Goodluck with your hatchings. I hope at least something hatches here. A lot of turkeys would be good. Folks keep asking me for them

One of our Naraganset hens hatched at least one baby on thursday. I say at least one because she is wicked protective and she won't let me see what is under her but I hear peeping. I hope they make it, we will know better once she gets up and stops holding tight to the nest.
