You can order peaches and blueberries from the Belfast Coop. I think the first blueberry order is done, but they have a second. People are also selling blueberries on the side of the road now- saw some down in Waldoboro yesterday!

Good luck with pickles! My cukes are starting to grow like crazy, almost time to start collecting- I make lots of bread and butter pickles every year- they make good Christmas gifts/hostess gifts!

The Belfast Coop is great. It's been around for ever. I don't live in Waldoboro-live in Farmingdale- my husband just got a job at Medomak valley HS so we were checking it out.

Quailtrail: From all that I've read, white egg layers tend to be a flightier bird. Check out Henderson's chicken breed chart. It gives a description of the birds, egg color, cold tolerance, temperament. Of course even if you choose a certain breed, you're bound to find some that are calmer than others. I would personally stay away from RIR, however there are those who would say otherwise. I would also recommend that if you get a mixed group, that you get at least 2 of each kind that you choose. I've found that my birds form little sub flocks, and seem to know who is the same breed. Have the rest of you noticed this????

Hey all, I have a question...

Added the wheels to the tractor today, life is so much easier now! I just went out to check out the Cornish X's and they are laying out, some in the shade, some in the sun, seemingly enjoying life! I thought AWESOME! Then, I noticed one of the birds had what appears to be a sore on its hind end. I grabbed it up and sure enough, there is a tear in its skin, it is not deep, but the skin is torn and the underlying tissue is exposed. The wound is scabbed over, seems to be healing and the bird is in no way suffering in its actions or abilities. I looked and noticed a second one with a similar scar.

Should I separate them? Is there any treatment that would be required? I do not want to lose the whole flock at this point, almost halfway to processing...

Any ideas are appreciated!

I was wondering if anyone in the Fryeburg area has any point of laying pullets. I am looking to round out my "colorful basket" flock. I am hunting for a white layer (leghorn, hamburg, or campine) and a chocolate layer (welsummer or maran). I would prefer someone within 45 minutes of my area that has both. I realize that my chances of this are slim, but i figured I'd throw it out here. I am always leery of craigslist.

pelle, it sounds like they may be pecking at each others vents? . When mine were pecking at each other I used blu kote on the wounds and it helped somewhat. not a cure all but it did help.

Just wanted to say hi. We're in Waldoboro and have a small "pet" flock of ducks and African geese. I also have a pastel and blue fawn call duck pair who produced 1 male and 1 female duckling this year.

Anyone else breeding these colors of call duck? I'm either looking to sell both ducklings or find a female for the male duckling.
