Maine

My hubby also does the steel bar trick. My dad once said: if you have a lever long enough, you can move the earth! I once very minimally helped him roll a camp building up a steep slope away from the lake with the use of steel levers, winches, and rollers. That man is in his late 80's, and in spite of his advancing age, occasional word finding problems, and physical ailments, he still manages to run circles around me.

Congrats on moving your new shed into place, MEMama. (Wish we had a movie of that!).

I no longer drive like a crazy person, but I did when I first arrived here. I came to Maine for college. One day I was driving in downtown Waterville (keep in mind this was more than 30 years ago and Waterville was much less developed). I had other passengers in the car and we were stopped at a traffic light. When the light turned green, the car in front of me did not zoom away instantaneously at lightening speed, so I leaned on the horn. The look of horror on my passengers faces was enough to teach me that my driving style was inappropriate!

I am not the biggest sports fan, but if I had to root for a baseball team it would be the Red Sox. And I like Fenway Park.

Friend of mine thought he should have a bumper sticker to warn people: "Maine plates, Mass driver!"

That's awesome. Even when I was in Mass (went to college there) I didn't drive like a Mass***. I've driven like a grandmother since I was 16. And I am always amazed when someone drives crazy in Portland, it's just so out of character most times.

There's one person in Hollis selling chickens right now on Craigslist. I'll give them a buzz.

I'm a MASS****.

Bucka, You make me laugh! My Mum is from MA--20 minutes outside of Boston. I was born there too but was raised in ME. Mum says she wouldn't go back & live down there for anything. My family have those types of stories too.

Our coop has gone hi-tech...DH got me a Christmas present...a chicken cam. He was so excited about it, I didn't have the heart to tell him I was hoping for an automatic pop door openener or a remote car starter. It has already helped last night a saw 3 birds itching. I thought maybe they're just preening. The next time I looked almost everyone was itching. So about 9 pm, I was out in the coop dusting everyone for mites. I couldn't see any but everyone got dusted. No one is itching tonight!

Hi CC... May I ask what you use for dusting the birds and how exactly do you dust them ?

Coopchick, we've talked about a chicken cam! DH installed some chicken swings last weekend, and we're eager to know if anyone has tried them. They certainly aren't on there when we are around. The first version was a thin board and we did see scratches on them, but thought they were too unstable. Now we have two inch diameter tree branches. They don't seem terribly interested.

I was just scanning through CL and saw a listing for day old chicks (legbars and rhodebars). I know these aren't common birds, but the price took me by surprise. $40 for the legbars and $50 for the rhodes? Is it just me or is that insane for day old chicks?!?!
