Maine

So, you've successfully had 4+ weeks apart? How many in each of the group(s), oldest to youngest? I'll be starting 17, hatching a bunch with the same hatch date, and possibly getting 2 more hatchlings 3 weeks later. My biggest concern is with the big flock of older birds being joined by just 2 wee littles.

Just catching up...keepers :(

((HUGS)) To all that need them for their losses, frustrations, and to keep warm. Spring is coming. ..I have NEVER been more excited about spring. I want my flock to be out and enjoying themselves. ..

I'm so sorry!  Stuck, dry membranes, or stuck malpositioned, or stuck drowned = too wet?  Were you able to tell?

I've got a friend who is going to save a weeks worth of eggs for me.  EE roo x EE, RIR, PBR.  Any hatchlings I get from 24 +/- eggs will be split between myself, her and a couple of other friends.
of the two I saved from the killer broody 1 was positioned and may have had too low of humidity (I think it piped into a vein) and the other was definitely stuck due to dry humidity. Temps and humidity were fine until the last two days and everything went haywire. I have no clue why. My kids are going to be devastated. Heck, I'M devastated.

So sorry to hear about the failed hatch, MEMama. :(. It has happened to many of us and is always hard. It will still be a valuable lesson for the kids, even if it is a difficult one.

Longhorn in Buxton is holding their annual Poultry Seminar by Poulin Grain on April 12th at 10 am. Very basic information but the Poulin rep is very nice and will be around after to answer any questions about Poulin grain you might have.

Good news on the wood pellet front. Lowes in Windham got a shipment in yesterday. About 1200 bags. I ordered 20 bags online around 1 this afternoon and they were down to just over 100 bags. When I went there tonight to pick up my order they were sold out. More due in on March 8th. So now I have enough for about a month.

I also bought 50 ft of snow fencing just to go around the top of the goat pen to keep the monsters inside where they belong. This morning they came up on the porch and banged on the door.

... I had a bin in the coop, but they filled it with shavings in one day and never used it again.
I keep a secondary "feeder" bin in the coop so the silkies and lower order pullets can get to eat when the hanging feeder is busy. They do well at first but it always ends up full of shavings.
