I scored pretty big at the town dump today... much to hubby's displeasure. I found a 4' x 6' sheet of 3/8" plywood (to use for interior sheathing on my new coop to be) , and a dorm sized refrigerator (to make a new incubator).

After candling the ? eggs last night, I was able to mark several more as viable.

@Widget fingers crossed! !!
@lazy gardener yay on the viability! !!

Went to give my broody girl a special meal just for herself (warm oatmeal, flaxseed, cracked corn, BOSS, and grapes) to have her get out of the nesting box so I could put more hay in there as there wasn't much...well she had a cracked egg with her :( when she noticed I was trying to grab it she started to eat it :( I hope she doesn't try to eat the rest she is sitting on!!???
So I distracted her by putting some hay in the box and grabbed the cracked egg she started screeching! !!! She was not happy!!! My son was all worried as our roo started squawking at us...oh boy I hope she doesn't decide not to stay on the 4 that are left...???

Also as she was freaking out she pooped. ..I have NEVER seen a chickens poop that big!!!! Is that ok or normal? ?? Also was a dark color vs the brown they all poop...???

Yes, broody poops are huge, and take on a life of their own in their offensive quality. How badly was this egg cracked? Through the membrane? If not, perhaps you can repair it and set it in your incubator. Yay! It's snowing again... looks like a blizzard out there.

Your reaction to the broody poo made me laugh, quailtrail. I've only had a broody that I allowed to hatch once, and I agree with LG's assessment of the offensive nature. Is your broody in with the other chickens, or separate?
I don't think I'd worry about her eating the other eggs. All chickens will eat a cracked egg, in my experience.

it was cracked wide open :( I checked the nesting box a tiny bit of clear no yolk.

shes in with the others. I've read a variety of opinions re: leaving her vs. Moving her. She is back in her nesting box again. Had my son go check on her, he's 14 and a chicken himself lol, he said she started squawking as soon as he opened the nestingbox door. I guess shes not too happy with us now :(

Well since I called myself out panicking about the poop when I first saw it, in the feeder, I thought it was a dead mouse!!!!! Lol!!!!! But yeah its nasty smelling lol!!!!

I did it. I managed to go into TSC today and only come out with the bag of dog food I went in to purchase.  :) It was hard but I kept telling myself that my chicks are due in next weekend and I can wait. Plus, while they had plenty, there was nothing I was interested in. And it did not help that the labels just said assorted breeds.

Congrats on staying strong!! I went in on Friday and only came out with a waterer. But they were cute!!

Huge, dark, and stiiiiiinky...that's a broody poop!!

All this talk about incubating means that I have to dig mine out and set some eggs tomorrow. I have what I think are three turkey eggs that I want to try and hatch. Not sure what the poults would end up looking like since they would be Midget White/Bourbon Red crosses. Hate to use the incubator for just three eggs but since my rooster is AWOL it would be pointless to add any of the chicken eggs I have collected this week.
