I'm ready for round 3. Bring it.

Does this mean the ground hog won't see his shadow?

I don't like these temperatures, but the fluffy snow has been fun. I can no longer wear the sleek, modern LLBean snowshoes, but have pulled out the giant, old army-surplus pair that we got at Marden's 20 years ago. They float right on top!

I said just the other day that I need old school snowshoes! The new smaller ones sink in this fluffy stuff.
I Have 3 chickens Molt and a whole Lot of snow hope everyone is Hang in here comes the next snow storm

Good luck with the molters... such an awful time for the poor girls to lose their feathers!

So I came home early from work today with a migraine & other issues. I really just wanted to curl up on the couch. Went to check on the girls and noticed my pen roof was bowing badly! I hadn't kept up with it the last few storms. Went back in & got dressed for the weather. The front half was almost done when DH called & said he bought a roof rake, it was in the small garage. I go to get the keys for that garage and find I have locked myself out of the house. The spare key has been missing since 1 of the kids used it & misplaced it...never to be found again. Called DH who said the state is letting us out early. I said I could wait. I shoveled some more then went into the coop to get out of the wind. I MacGyver'ed a heater from a chicken feeder & a heat bulb and hoped I didn't lose power. It gave off enough heat to warm my hands & dry out my hat. I'm very thankful I was wearing carhartt coveralls even if they were meant for an extra large tall man

. DH got home about an hour later.

I am so very sorry. You were in a very unsafe situation, given the cold weather today. I hope you can get an other spare key made! That sounds like something I'd do... except I'd lock myself out of the house when running out to the mail box... no jacket, no sweater, no socks... crocks on my feet. I always go out to check on the flock around supper time. Not gonna do it tonight... Nope! can't make me do it!!!

Spring is on the way!!!

6 weeks!!!!!

Happy ground hog day!!!

Scary times, Coopchick! I'm afraid of getting locked out in this weather, too. I've kept an eye on the thermometer today, and the high at my house was - 5 degrees F. (Heaven knows what in wind chill!).

The flock is snowed in at present. My helper is coming tomorrow and we'll shovel them a path around the pen and cover it with old shavings I save when I clean out the coop. The diva's feet must not touch the burning white poison! I'm running out of places to put the snow, we need a February thaw.
