X2 what ^ said. The RIR breed is the one I get the meanest and the sweetest males from;-) Usually the most handsome best traited male that I choose to keep for breeding turns to be the meanest. It seems that I always end up with 3 boys to choose from so the other 2 get turned out to free range. Those extras are always the sweetest! No other breed has ever turned out a meaner roo for me.
 
i had a Newhampshire red rooster he was 3 months old when i got him he was good until he turned a year old. he turned mean when my back was turned he would spur me he got me good drawing blood a handful of times i finally got rid of him he wouldnt stop. meanest rooster i ever had.
 
I had 4 very mean RIR hens. I had a lovely peaceful flock before I added them. They pulled all my Sizzles headfeathers out & were teaching others to do it too! I re-homed them to a friend who had 2 roosters & no ladies. Now he has 2 happy roos!
 
My RIR are pretty calm but the barred rocks I had were nasty things. One of them I specifically named "Jerk" because she was. I was not sad when a hawk got her.

The worst rooster I ever had was a speckled sussex. All my SS girls have been calm and good, fun birds to have. The boy would spur you without warning as soon as you turned your back. However, if you were facing him he'd act like a normal bird. I kept him around a little longer than I would have because he kept the neighbor from coming over uninvited.
 
The meanest rooster I had was also a RIR. My Alpha hen is a RIR as well. But, I'd consider her behavior to be normal Alpha behavior.

Today, I start collecting eggs for my great egg experiment of 2015. It will be difficult to get clean eggs with all this mud. I may have to resort to spot washing some eggs... against the recommendations of the "they say" police.

My RIR rooster seems to be doing better. I take my little weeding rake with me when I go visit. It is one of those little curved rakes, the bowl of it easily holds an egg if one needs to be fished out of the back of a coop. It can also be used to nudge a rooster. No more attack issues, when I say move along and give him a nudge forward, he moves forward. Kind of hard ranging the birds in-between the snow banks, especially since they like to fly up on the banks around the paths. I have noticed that I am now seeing some wood on my raised beds showing in the back yard. I have a tractor coming for meat chickens in mid April, there is hope that the snow could be gone by then. Thanks everyone for your rooster comments.

Is celery hard to grow? I have never grown that before. Is it an annual or like asparagus and rhubarb does it grow back again?
