Hi all, I'm from Portland and have three hens. One is an ex-battery hen named dodo who has a broken beak, one is a Rhode island red named brownie and the other one I don't know the breed but she is white and lays brown eggs and her name is snowball

. I plan on getting three more hens next year when we build a bigger coop and wanted to know if anyone has heard of orchard ridge farm in Gorham. If so, how would you rate them on quality, health of birds ect.?

I know this post is a few weeks old but a few years ago I got 2 EEs and a Golden Spangled Hamburg from them. I really liked the quality of the birds and had a great bond with them (I lost one because she was egg bound and another to a hawk) but I had to work for that. Their chicks are raised in very large hoop houses and not handled at all so if you want birds you can hold, you'll have to put in the effort and earn their trust. I also didn't get mine until they were 16 weeks old but they do offer younger chicks, they just don't guarantee gender until a certain age.

ARG! From all I have read here and online I really think we should go with greenhouse poly. It seems much more durable and stable during the cold winter months. Now to convince the man that it is worth the wait to order what we need and do it right the first time.

hello from the st. john valley! you guys get snow yet? had a few inches yesterday but it all melted. chickens don't want to come out anymore.;)
