Cool. I was contemplating some Heritage Barred Rocks, but Dominiques interest me.
What is the primary differences in the two? --other than the comb-- is your line from breeder stock or hatchery? I'm in Camden, you? I'd be looking for eggs sometime late February or first week in March.

I don't give artificial heat/light so my flock has the winter off from laying but they should start up by then. I've sent you a pm with more details.

I agree that it would be nice to have a breeder list. I've had mixed results with shipped eggs, but it is one way to get exactly what you want.

I just did a quick search; there's one place in Clinton listed on the Livestock Conservancy site that offers hatching eggs of several heritage breeds and other breed specific sites with their own directories.

Does anyone know if there is a thread for MaIners who sell hatching eggs? Would be s great resource as we could drive for eggs as opposed to the USPS. Love to hear what you all have to offer in regards to eggs...

We could simply do a list right here. Island Girl has started it. To add to it, simply quote her, and add your stuff to the list, as she's done, best to place general location, breeds you have, and when you are likely to have eggs available. Disclosure re: any deaths or disease issues in flock also necessary IMO.

Doms are a bit smaller, actually Cuckoo pattern, which is a bit less crisp than Barred pattern, but not really discernible to the casual observer. Doms a bit smaller. I've not had BR in my flock, but absolutely love Doms. They are very friendly, good foragers, gentle spirited in a flock, all round excellent birds. More apt to go broody than PBR. Eggs a bit smaller, laying frequency a bit less.

My experience with shipped eggs was not good. But part of my problem was with an untested incubator that I set eggs in before trouble shooting it.

There's also a supplier up north. Be sure before you buy from one of these places that you do a thorough check of their facilities. If it doesn't look like a place you'd want your birds living, you probably don't want to get eggs from them.

One is a pure bred nubian, the other is half lamancha half oberhasli. I think they're 3 or 4. Never been bred. They're fat per the vet. The nubian is up to date on her shots, the half breed is allergic to CDT and only got 1 dose as a kid and another in October (retrial but reacted).
