I got some eggs sent from Oklahoma Monday at around 2:30 and they were in Camden for pickup Wednesday AM... Although I got some others from both PA and NC and they didn't make it until today... Setting 52 eggs tomorrow. Wheaten Marans, Silver Ameraucanas and some Heritage Barred Rocks and RIRs. Couple of stray OEs in there as well...

I have the octagon advance in both the basic and the advance (meaning it has the humidity pump and auto humidity control). The humidity pump is amazing but please note that I incubated in both and got the exact same outcome so the pump is just a convenience. With the regular I end up having to fill both wells with water and refill daily or it will go dry. If the incubator isn't full (ie your 7 eggs), I will throw a sponge in it where I can reach it with a syringe pushed down the top hole and squirted onto the sponge. If the incubator is full, I quickly open the lid, dump water into the well quickly and close it. You'll get leaks.

Windy much for you all today????

I'm counting the days till I set my eggs. Planning to set around 3/22 to coincide with delivery 4/14. Will have some pullets to sell when the birds are off heat. (Is that counting my chicks before they hatch????!)

I've had good luck with the Brinsea Octagon. My house is very dry this time of year also. I usually put a tiny bit of water in the wells each day, keeping it between 25 and 30%.

For lockdown, I take a thick paper towel or other clean cloth and lie it in the bottom so that is covers the flat surfaces on the bottom, as well as dipping into the channels (to maximize surface area). Then I add water until it starts to drip out the bottom. I also put a few drops of oxine in my water, -probably not necessary but one year I had a very long drawn out hatch and the towel was developing mold by the end.

Each day, I add more hot water by inserting a thin drinking straw through the air vent and down into the bottom grid. I use one of those ear cleaning bulbs to shoot water down the straw. Humidity will shoot up into the low 70s. It drops overnight, but I don't worry about it until morning. I find the humidity goes up on it's own when the chicks start hatching, but when necessary, the straw can be wiggled around and between the chicks to add more water.
I hope you have a great hatch!

I do use the oxine to dip my eggs before putting eggs in,but will us a drop in water. If u put a straw in the vent hole won't that stop fresh air from getting in? Thanks for the help
