Good luck with your roosters! I had no problem finding a home for my aggressive EE rooster on Craigslist a few weeks ago, people really want the blue eggers right now. I had to google search the Orloffs. I wish I had better luck with roosters, they are so beautiful. Too aggressive for me.

maybe part of it's the breed. I've had wyandottes and never a problem with my blr roos. I did have a problem with my white dotte, but of the 5 blue laced reds I've had, none have been aggressive to people. I have terrible luck with weasels killing my flock.

hoppy you need ferral cats they keep everything away . You wouldn't have a weasel problem . I live in the foot hills surrounded by bogs and lakes . My wild boys keep it very controled around here . ~~ Tammy

Coldweatherbirds, my chicks spent their first night out in the coop last night. One of them got locked out of the coop. I wasn't completely done with tightening up the run (mis communication with the wife lol) the poor chick, she was hiding under the coop, when I went out to check on them in the morning she was peeping at me. Now I have the run all zipped up and they were running around all day. Every one got put in and locked up tonight. I haven't put anything in to heat it but they don't seem to be bothered by the 40 - 45 degree weather at night. Good luck with your coop, it seems like for ever I was building mine but the spring thawing and surprise snow storms and all the rain limit the time to work on them.

My chicks are 4 1/2 weeks and they have been out in the coop since last Sunday. It is uninsulated and there is no heat or light source other than solar from a large window. They are doing great. They seem very happy.

I moved 2 more of my 4 week-olds out to the transition coop yesterday. That makes 8 out there now. They have a heat lamp. The coop is a glorified dog house. The previous owner of our house used it for chickens, but it's really too small and drafty. They have a heat lamp and a cardboard box under it to protect from drafts. They all cuddle into the box at night. The thermometer in the box ranges 70-80F. So far I've only moved the very largest. I think one of them may be a hen, but I'm assuming rooster right now. I am keeping the other 8 four-week-olds inside for another week if I can stand it. I think they are likely to be hens and I really want them to be hens. Plus the 2 two-week-olds I just got. I don't care if they are hens or roosters because they are new blood for my flock.

I'm almost to the bottom of my bag of medicated chick starter. Do I get another bag or move onto a grower next? This is my first time with chicks in a LONG time!
