Hello all.

Two years ago we bought 4 Dominique pullets from a wonderful woman down by Scarborough. Since then I have lost all of her contact info. We are looking to get a Dominique rooster to add to our flock now and I was hoping she could help. Without her info I am looking for anyone in that state that has Dom's that we could get a rooster from.

Our currently flock is all girls 4 Dom's, a backyard flock mutt, and 4 EE's that we raised from chicks this year.

I'm in the Sebec area and I've been to a few of the swaps I see at TSC but no one ever has Dominiques.

My goodness! Please allow me a minute to rant!! WHAT A CRAZY WEEK WE HAD!!!! PLease PLEASE let this week be better, and calmer, and peaceful!

We started out last week with the DR's office misdiagnosing me with kidney stones and sending me home. Wednesday I ended up having an appendectomy. Thurs/Fri were kind of fuzzy thanks to the meds from the surgery. Saturday I was all set to start on the road towards normal. Then a woman who had just given blood at the school up the road passed out while driving and came off the road into our driveway, hitting our car and then a tree. First, and beyond all else, thankfully nobody was seriously injured. The woman walked away from the crash with a bump on her head and little else. So please dont misunderstand my frustration. I am so very thankful that things werent worse, because they certainly could have been. But when she hit our car, she bent the front tire in and it has been inoperable since. Since this happened first thing saturday morning, we have been unable to get anywhere with insurance etc and havent been able to do anything all weekend. I spent 4+ hours on the phone with 2 different insurance companies Saturday and have already been on the phone with them again this morning. Thankfully now it looks like they are getting the ball rolling. But man am I worn out! And frankly, I am afraid to relax too much cause who knows what is going to happen next!!

Hope everyone else had a more peaceful weekend!

I wouldn't want to trade my horrendous cold and sudden case of head lice in for surgery and a wrecked car, but this wasn't my best week either! :p

I hatched 4 Dom chicks from Bill Post's eggs this year. They are about 6 weeks old now. I'm sure one is a rooster - which we'll keep. I'm questioning the others. At hatch, they all looked the same. Light legs and large white spots on their heads. I thought I had 4 boys but now I'm not so sure. The others are smaller and a little darker with much less comb and wattle redness. If you'd like to send me a PM with your email address I can give you an update as they get older.

Oh my goodness that would be awesome! I should have things set up to hatch eggs next year so perhaps I will try that to get a rooster if I can't find one.

That is truly a horrible weekend. Dealing with insurance can suck. I hope the rest of the process goes quickly.

I am sooooo frustrated today. I spent yesterday cleaning out the two indoor brooders and the beginning grow out coop. I moved the four turkeys, one goose and one golden comet pullet from the grow out coop to the recently built hoop house to join an older golden comet and the orpington rooster. This got them away from the messy ducks and into a larger area. Everything was going great. Everyone was getting along.

Then at midnight I heard a squawk and the dogs went nuts. So I got up put on my muck boots and ran outside armed with a flashlight and a shovel leaving the dogs inside. All I saw were the three Muscovies sleeping in their normal spot near the front steps. And one very frazzled rooster. I knew that was not good news. The rooster should have been safe and secure in the hoop house. Yet here he was about 150 ft away from his home. So I went over to the hoop house. Something had ripped the wire along the right side of the door frame. The one weak spot of the whole thing. I had two headless turkeys, blood and feathers everywhere and no sign of the younger golden comet, one turkey and the goose.

The remaining turkey was in the back and looked traumatized. The golden comet didn't look much better. I fixed the hole and checked on the duck pen that is about ten feet away. Everyone there was safe and sound.

The rooster spent the night on his own but was right next to the hoop house this morning. He went right in when I opened the door and checked on his remaining charges. The pullet seems okay and is active. The turkey hasn't moved much but is alert and did eat some.

I hate losing birds. And this will be the third year that I have tried raising turkeys and failed. Last year it was a bobcat that got two. The year before was a mangy fox that killed everything. This year I believe it is another fox that is the criminal. Now is the time for someone to invent and market a portable force field for chicken coops. One that repels any predators by flinging them about 100 yards any time they try to get into a coop.
