Maine

I bought my Thanksgiving turkey and my husband called after he picked it up.

"I think paying $100.00 is excessive, maybe you should raise a few next year hun." thats all he said... lol

Mine even said he's do it if we had the space...look at all these good husbands!

We had been planning to hike to work of the turkey day calories- we picked today- did Tumbledown mountain ( the loop trail, if anyone is familiar with the mountain) and it was freezing and windy and lightly snowing the whole time, but beautiful. I have to admit, it did kick my butt a little..still worth it!

We got a new rooster last week ( my uncle down the road gave him to us) and he is fitting in like a charm- he is loving the ladies and they are loving him. I am also glad that after our little spurt of death- everyone is seeming happy and healthy.

Wow! It was a cold day for a hike. We used to hike more in the winter, - I guess we feel old! I know a guy that hikes up Tumbledown with his skates, so he can skate on the little pond up there. Was it frozen?

I did get out today, cutting boughs for some teachers that want to make wreaths. I kept running back inside to get warm. The wind on the mountain must have been brutal. We once hiked Little Jackson in this weather, and turned back just short of the summit due to cold wind.

One of my chickens left a pile of worms on the poop board today. :(. I just wormed them in late July, with SCG's help. I'm not that thrilled about doing it again, but it clearly must be time. Even though I don't think it happens very often, I keep imagining cracking open an egg with a worm in it! That might put me over the edge.

when you worm them, you need to repeat it in 3 weeks. the first dose kills the adults but not the eggs, so once those hatch, the repeating, kills them. also remember chickens eat off the ground and keep reinfecting themselves so twice a yr, routinely might be good.

forgot to add, I got my first marans egg yesterday Paulajon!!

Quote: Congrats Hoppy, that is awesome, how was the color of the egg I am courious to know if the egg is dark ?

any idea when that will come off?

My next appt is Dec 20. I am calling the Dr tomorrow, he has not ordered PT, and I think it would help me strengthen the tendons and ligaments. I am doing exercises with stretch bands to increase range of motion and strengthen my muscles.

I need to start exercising, even though I haven't been injured! Strengthening while the cast is on sounds like a good idea.

I did repeat the worming, Hoppy, which is why I was so discouraged to see worms. It looks like my schedule needs to be every 3 or 4 months. Maybe it is in our soil. 60 -80 days of lost eggs per year is a lot, but at least right now, they aren't laying much. I've never wormed my young flock, and I think I will start a schedule that alternates flocks, so I can get eggs from one while tossing out the other.
