Is it possible that they are "picking". Sometimes they will pick or peck each other's feather's

Hi yes I've seen them picking/pecking each other. It looks like they are grooming each other is that normal? Xx

Bald, red, irritated butts can be from a severe infestation of lice. Look carefully around their vents and if you see any reddish crawlies and eggs caked along the feather shafts, you have the reason for the feather loss.
 
Hi so we have changed the garden from gravel to "mulch" from conifer an other trees, the chickens absolutely love it and are back to laying 6 eggs a day. I have taken pictures of the 2 chickens with red/feather loss on their bums
