Hi!

Is there anyone out there working on making chickens legal in Cambridge, MA? I know there's been a complicated parsing of the vague city ordinances that makes it hard/impossible to own them. I also think they did a study and lots of surrounding towns allow them. But as far as I know it's still technically illegal and no one has made moves to change that. But maybe I'm wrong?

We've owned them before in Cambridge for about a year without incident. But we've moved to a slightly more exposed location and don't want to invest time and money in a backyard flock just to get shut down. Our neighbor got shut down a couple of years ago.

Anyone have info? I'm really interested in advocating for backyard chickens in Cambridge, so I'd love to help anyone currently working on it. Or if it's not happening yet, I'd love to assemble some like-minded folks to help make it happen!

Happy to help you- I'm in Peabody and went through an approvals process with the health board. If there is nothing in place, you could use that as a framework for discussion with the city?
Thanks! I'd love any resources you'd be willing to share! Is there a way to DM on this forum?
