WOW! I started this thread in October 2013 and now there are 116 pages!!!!

I had to get out of chickens in 2014 when a neighbor ratted me out to the township. They made me get rid of my small back yard flock and coop (see my avatar).

Well it's 2018 now and my wife wants to do it again on a very small scale.... Hopefully this time we don't get caught and ratted out! I'm using a tiny 3'x3' shipping crate and will only raise it about 6" off the ground. Also hiding it in a different location of the yard.

Good Luck! Hopefully the regulations changed in your area so that you can have chickens without question. I was looking for the bucket/no-mess feeder options, and this looks perfect!

Where are you located. Some towns give you a permit but in Midwest City ok you have to have a huge yard because the chickens can't be within 50' of any water source. I'm lucky. My house was built in1955 and is on over a 3rd of an acre. Don't get a rooster and maybe the noses in your neighborhood won't notice. LOL

Try to see if they are legal now.
Many things have changed in a lot of urban areas.
Or even better, get them to change the laws, ask for a permit for 4 hens only.

Would hate to see you get them taken away because you broke the law.

I'm back!!!!!!!!! I'm the OP to this thread! Haven't had chickens do to zoning since 2014.... but we have chicks this year. So I made my bucket feeder tonight!!! My plans say cut the hole 3-1/2", but I found on the first bucket that's too big. It should be 3" which works great and is super tight so no need to caulk or PVC cement.

Looks good! I used a 3 inch hole when I made mine, but I also used L brackets so they had no chance of moving, even with them being tight and I didn't want to use caulk. Also, gamma lids are great for these, easy on and off with the lid.

Lowes has the gamma lids. They are with the buckets.

That's no lid, the lid is white. It spins on and off and has a small rubber seal.

Is that the size you are using for chicks?

No I use a chick feeder.
