Making a chicken tractor for chicks

I was just looking for you on the search resource thiss site has and found one that said a 4 by 8 tractor would be good for 2 laying hens. I have no idea how many chicks or their breeds that you have. Best I could find. I free range here so no worries about that. Hope that helps a little or someone else that uses tractors shows up.

Nice breeds. I have two brahmas that I got this spring and they are very laid back and gentle so far. This tractor is only going to be temporary right? My amish neighbor had about 20 meat birds in a maybe 4 by 8 run for their whole life. Wich of course is a short life. I dont see why that size wouldn't work for a month for your layers

Hi, I don't have a 'tractor'...but I used one of my dh's dog boxes that he uses for hunting dogs...it's about 4x4....it was heavy, but dh and I would move it about in the yard....we have 14 girls that are now 9 weeks old, they played and ranged in it until they were about 7 weeks old, they began to get where they needed more room to range....I know this is not much help...but maybe someone else can advise....you are probably going to need something pretty large if they are going stay in it until 3-4 months old.

Ok. If you go to the search feature and type in mobile chicken coops then click on the first one in the list it brings up a page with lots of different tractor ideas. You can then click on each individual one to see details. I hope this helps. Good luck. Remember bigger is better when it comes to chicken housing.
