Making a coop skirt

This is my first year working in my own coop. I relayed the idea to my grandfather who used to raise chickens, cows, rabbits, turkeys, and I'm sure others lol he said it sounded like a great idea. Clever even. But he never used it so I dunno. Seems to be working great here. I hope someone else might be able to shed some light on it further for us.

I'd lay the mesh apron on top of the ground and pin it down with a few concrete blocks or logs or what ever....grass or weeds will eventually grow up thru it......unless mowing there might be a problem.
