Great Job

Thanks! I'm really pleased with how it came out. The icing on the cake was seeing my Father's face light up when he saw the birds in the coop. He said it was closer to 50 years since any chickens had occupied the building. He's not one to get excited, so seeing some sort of emotional reaction was pretty neat.

Two eggs so far!

I'm hoping for about 5 dozen a week out of 12 hens once they settle in to their new surroundings, is that reasonable to expect?

We did almost the exact same thing except ours was the old tack room. We don't have horses anymore, just too cold in the winter to take care of them everyday. I was able to take one of the stalls for water storage ( so my wife did not have to carry water ), one for straw, and the third for equipment storage.

You did a fine job on the coop!!!

Here is the front of our 100 year old 'barn' (more of an enclosure really). We were actually going to burn it down at one point, but there are 18" wide, 1.5" thick, 10' old growth pine boards they used for the walls. I just could not get my self to light the match. We put some OSB panels inside to shore it up, and now the hens have a home.

We chose a sliding door to save on space, It holds the access door to the nest boxes closed in the day time, and the bar we place to hold the door closed at night holds the access door closed at night.

both of ya'll have done such a great job using existing buildings, now my dream is to build a small barn type structure on our property, since we don't have any old building to use. I am very thankful we were able to use a storage building that was here as our coop, but I need more space. We'll see, in this economy I guess I should be happy with what I have, and honestly I am. Thanks for sharing what ya'll were able to create and give us inspiration.

it took me some time, but I got to take over the whole stall :)

I'm up to 36 girls and planning to expand again at some point. I can't keep up with the demand for fresh eggs.
