I need to put some kind of top on my duck cage this weekend and I was wondering what I should use. I lost a duck a couple days ago since something climbed the 8 foot fence, jumped in and attacked her as she was sitting on her nest.

I'm using a large, chain-link dog fence that is attached to a shed that the ducks use for shelter. The bottom of the cage has been lined with chicken wire. I was thinking about just putting more chicken wire over the top of the fence to make a 'roof', but will that be strong enough to keep out night critters?

Thanks for any advice! I don't want to loose any more ducks...and I have 11 babies on the way!

I have chicken wire and poles welded to the top of my ducks cage with aa tarp to keep it cool...

Not sure how you would attach it but I have a similar size run made out of wood and we bought the plastic pieces of lattice to use for the roof. We screwed them to a wood frame and then nailed it to the top of the enclosure. They are very strong and it was easier to attach then hardware wire. the holes are larger but my birds arent near the roof so I'm not worried about that. I also have shade cloth over it too in warm weather.

Yes it will if properly attached. Might I suggest that welded wire is much cheaper and will work well for a top since a coon can reach through it but if there are no birds within reach that doesn't matter.
