Making an auto turner

I found an old school multiplo double door incubator for sale and bought it, it still heats up and looks like it will work and if nothing else it looks pretty cool. This thing is huge and hatches over 2000 eggs at once. Starting to wonder what I have done!

Hubby is into electronics and is going to modify it to autoturn. So question is how many turns/angles does it need to turn? Is it enough to go one way and then back every 2 hours?

Every 2 hours should be more then enough.
I've had ones that were every 6 hours and when I've hand turn its only been every 8 or 12 hours.

Would it be any advantage if the turner rotates them from pointy end down to pointy end up? Or, it is better to rotate them on their side.

I have a little mickey mouse hobby incubator and have never even seen a professional one.

From what I have read on their side is best because it replicates what happens when they are under a hen.
