Making chicken scratch

I just bought a huge bag of wheat bran to use for raising mealworms and I was wondering if I can also use the bran for making scratch for my chickens that I don't have yet? ( thinking ahead)

I wouldn't simply because of the inverted Ca. It is going to cause problems pretty quickly as wheat bran is 1:10 (meaning it has one part Ca to 10 parts P) and laying hens need about 4:1 (4 times more Ca than P).

Where do you get Millet? I assume you get the rest of the stuff from a feed store.

Millet can be found at your local feed store in brown and white.

When you are just making scratch (not their main source of food) you can mix just about any grains together and they will like it. I have found ours particularly like some sunflower seeds, raisins, rice and peanuts.
