I had to work late yesterday and didn't get home until 7:00 pm. I asked DH to feed the horses and chickens for me. The horses are on our land 5 miles from home, chickens in the back yard. Like the wonderful man he is, he said of course. He called me to tell me "I got an egg!!" He was real excited. He said he fed the girls their layena, some scratch and pulled grass for them like he had seen me do. That last part really got me. There is winter rye growing in the yard and I pull some every day for their treat, along with garden greens. To think that he would go pick grass for the girls warmed my heart.

I'm jealous.... but not of the hubby. Mine is wonderful, too! But, oh how I long to see grass!!! Mine is burried under several inches of ice
and it feels like Spring will NEVER get here!

That IS sweet! Just over the weekend I was ill, needed to lie down. Got up just after dark and he had locked the free ranging hens up for me. DH is not into the chickens much - so he says. I have caught him talking to them many times now. (I don't say a word about it....)

Baymule, you got one of the keepers!

This would be a superb Husband/Wife Appreciation thread...... DH has proven many times that the things I don't think he notices are actually noticed!

I spent over 20 years in central TX, please don't shoot me.............

DH from day one said they were my birds and would assist under duress. Anyway, he let the chickens slowly grow on him, and would feed or put them to bed when I was making dinner or just having a bad day. He listens to me talk out my plans, and now makes suggestions. It has been a hard winter, especially this last month and I just haven't been able to go out in the cold mornings or on freezing days. He has cared for the chickens, both coops outside and the temp one in the garage. He even helps me building the last must have that tonights storm has yet delayed again. I know I would have to give up my chickens if he wouldn't help. I won't say he is a hooked as I am, not interested in breeding for example but he really is attached to his Naked Necks even selecting them when we found a local feed store that had some. He was far more angry when the neighbors dogs got into the garage chickens (no injuries, just one frightened silkie). Definitely a keeper.
