P1 - 02
UPDATE. As you recall, we were down to 9, after removing the Infertile. Another failed in early development, but the shell was so dark, I couldn't tell. The remaining 8 hatched on/about 12/30 and are currently healthy, happy, and eating up 24% protein Grower food. One is buff with smutty marks, much like Thing Three in P1-01. The remaining seven look much more like Things One and Two - dark with smudges of lighter color and the suggestion of wing barring. A few show the grey/black beak and slate legs suggestive of the E gene, yet have fluffy little chests and/or butts of buff-colored fluff. I have no idea how I'm going to keep these birds identified - trying very tiny leg bands today and hoping. While I weigh them. The wife will help, I hopes.
/Edit Named, Leg Banded, Photographed, Weighed.
Thing One - Thing Four (P1-01) are joined by their P1-02 siblings (Pictures follow), Sneezy, Sleepy, Happy, "Doc", Grumpy, Dopey, Bash, and Snow White. Weights are (respectively) 1.4, 1.3, 1.4, 1.8, 1.4, 1.8, 1.9, 1.5 ounces
P1 - 01
UPDATE. these birds have been removed from the brooder box and moved out to a 16 sq ft (aprox) grow out area in the back of my shed, with supplemental heat from a single reptile bulb to keep temps above freezing while they finish their juvenile feathering. Temps range from 35 - 70f. They remain on 24% grower feed.
Using a temporary run of about 24 sq ft to give them area to scratch, dust bathe, etc during dry daylight hours. They can see (and be seen by) the adult flock. Will weigh again in four days to judge growth rates. No leg bands (yet) as they can be visually identified currently.
