You know those hanging chicken blocks/suets you can buy at feed stores? I want to make my own, and I already have a good recipe from Fresh Eggs Daily, but it requires organic coconut oil, which costs an arm and a leg around here! Can I use vegetable shortening instead? Would it be okay for them to eat? Thanks in advance! :)

Instructions for fresh eggs daily suet cakes. She states in the instructions, about using grease from meats, bacon, lard, coconut oil. It does look like you can use other oils as substitutes.
