so oftentimes ill have a strawberry or two that has mold on it, so i cut the mold off and chop the rest of the nonmoldy strawberry up for my chickens. However, they don't eat it. They will throw it around a bit, or try to "drink" the strawberry juice from it, but they don't actually consume the strawberry.

I was wondering if anyone else has this issue and what they do to make the chickens eat strawberries. I feel like they would only eat them if they went in the garden and found the strawberry plants.

Chickens will eat what they want, there's no need to make them eat anything. Nothing moldy goes to my chickens, it goes directly to my compost pile. If my chickens don't eat what I put in the run, it turns to compost.

Ever try giving them non-moldy ones? I wouldn't feed moldy ones to chickens.

Then again mine probably wouldn't care, they love strawberries, strawberry tops, strawberry plants.

i clearly said i cut off the moldy part

i came back later on today and their food bowl was empty so i guess they ate the strawberries in the end. weird how i never see them actually eat it though.

Mine aren't that fussed about strawberries but will fight over a cherry tomato. Chickens are supposed to love cabbage. Mine will not touch one.
Wow that's so funny! Mine will DESTROY a head of cabbage in about 30 minutes!

Mine too!! Strawberries get A moderate response, but toss in a cherry tomato and it’s worth stopping to watch the ensuing chase.

Cabbage they love, but I just chop up whatever I have left if I’m using it in the kitchen, so they’ve never gotten a head of lettuce. Brussel sprouts, I’ll toss in the Complete stalk, leaves and all ...come back an hour later to a completely denuded stalk.
