Are they from Galileo? If so, I believe you have chocolate girls! The red and white in them won't be altered, but anything that would otherwise be black will grow up a smokey brown. Dee-lish!

Thank you Juliette! I just wish they would hurry up and tell me what they are already!!

Hoping for pullets..

I am terrible at pictures, I wish others could see how good they actually look in person.

Ohhh, so you don't want to be trendy and hatch out 3 roos for every pullet, like me???

I just put a dozen eggs in the 'bator last night, and I'm saying my nightly prayers to the Powers That Be, to grace me with a few pullets this hatch! I have several girls that have gone broody, including my white girls, and my other girls have stopped laying...I was remiss in starting up the lights in their coop for winter, and I guess they're protesting...So, all in all, not a very auspicious start to my hatching season! My color projects this winter are going to be very l-o-n-g and drawn out...Especially since I'm having to share my 3 black girls with SIX roosters, and none of them are currently laying!!!

Juliette

No, I don't like to be trendy.. I'm going to leave trendy to others.

Mine are being the same way, they were laying gang busters, I actually have 14 eggs on the counter and no room in the bator.

Then they decide that they are just not going to lay at all.

I just recently got a black pair but the pullet is just not wanting to give me any eggs.. I think she's holding them hostage.

I have four 5 week olds and got two of each out of that group. This bunch has eight so it will be interesting to see how many of each are in there.

I am going to move a bunch soon to make room for some of these younger ones soon, then hopefully focus on color specifics this coming year. That is the plan anyway.

My Silkied Seramas take longer to develop, especially their tails, compared to the smooths...Some just seem to be late bloomers!

Speaking of Silkied Seramas, have you noticed that they have a higher mortality rate than the smooths? I have read several reports of them dying sooner than they should.

Liz, yes they are Leo's offspring from a cute little A size hen, here is a picture of her. (chicks in pic were not hers but she did raise them and was a very good mother.

I have been telling everyone that my 8 week old truffles has been crowing since he was 6 weeks old... I couldn't ever catch it on camera, but tonight he was crowing and I had my iPhone out... Check him out..

LOVE THIS! I have a little fella that started crowing at 4 weeks old....it's adorable. Too bad he is promised to another home :-( I have 2 trios...that's enough for me right now.

BTW! My Seramas are house chickens!!! House chickens ROCK!!!
