The cockerels think they are "ready" much sooner than that!

Watch for the reddening of the combs. Different lines seem to mature at different rates and I beleive size can have an effect also. I have birds that were closer to 6 months and some others that were just 5. Really depends on the bird. Some will even lay very tiny pullet eggs at first. Luckily, mine all started with nice sized eggs! Good luck and try to be patient..waiting is the hardest part!!
