these 2 roos are big.... i think c or d's. i didn't let them go because i really like their color.
those chicks though are 4 weeks old. they are from my class A roo and class B hen. they are the tiniests that I have hatched so far
keeping my fingers crossed - hoping they would remain small but not too small.

Tyler, beautiful birds....congratulations on your Ohio Poultry Show wins.
Thanks Junebug!!
Loving all the serama pictures! Everyone has such beautiful birds!
Tyler~I also have butterscotch calls--they are my FAVE color of call. Daisy May is gorgeous. I got my breeding pair from Dennis as well(their names are jack n diane--midwest kids you know!), and they have hatched out 6 babies so far. Two I did under silkies--started with 8 eggs under two of my best broody silkies.. only 3 made it, and one of those died as well. 8 more in the incubator, and only one hatched... I call her Lucky Duck--cuz we had to help her hatch, now she runs around the yard with the rest of the gang. The last 3--were under Diane--she left one in the nest because it hatched later then the other two, so we rescued her and she is one very doted upon spoiled little duck in the brooder. The other two are with Diane and doing great. Isn't Dennis the nicest guy too?? Since I am new to call ducks, he has been very very helpful with answering ALL of my questions.
I can't wait to show these guys and see how they do! your white serama's are very nice too. Very typey. Congratulations!
My boy will stand just like the one in your first pic, I just need to catch him doing it when I have the camera lol. That is so cool, they look a lot alike color wise!

I have something similar, from a birchen mottled out of a silver duckwing. I can't tell if it's a poor black tail white or a poor black tail buff, so I just call him my "dirty Columbian"!

Not to go way off the serama topic, but I've just got to say I have a pair of butterscotch calls as well! They're my favorite color of call, too.
So darn cute! I just love my pair. I've had fertility problems with them, but I'm hoping to eventually hatch some ducklings out of them.
Even just one or two would be great! I know one egg started growing and was going well (until a guinea fowl ate it
) so it's not impossible.
Also, I'm excited--one of my four serama babies is getting in some odd white in addition to its caramel and black colors. I think it's going to be a pretty one! The four serama babies didn't look all that different when they had no feathers, but now the more feathers they get the more distinct they're becoming in their coloring! I think one of my favorite things about the serama breed is their unique colors. I just love raising the babies and seeing how they turn out! You never know what they're going to look like.
Also, my cockerel I posted a few pages back found a good home the other night. I miss him a little because he was around for six months and was the first serama I hatched, but he went to a twelve-year-old boy who's getting seriously involved in poultry and I know he'll be spoiled there, so it's a happy ending for him.
PoultryHaven, your roo does look just like Prince! They're both so pretty.

i know~ i did not mean to hijack~ i just get SO excited when I see other people with butters! heehee! (and yes, they are darn hard to hatch!) have cried my fair share of tears of frustration this Spring!
Don't you love all the colors seramas come in? It's like Christmas when they hatch..
Alright, who knows about leg color genes? Eventually, only yellow legs will be acceptable. Swarthy legs will be okay on primarily black birds. I don't know what swarthy means, smutty maybe? Anyway, I have several green-legged hens, and they are typey enough to keep, but I need to breed out their green legs! Mr. Mongold told me that green is "the lowest order of recessive" in leg color. I think that means that it is the easiest to breed out. Why am I getting so many dark legs then!?!?! One of my roos had slightly green legs. I was trying to deny it, but only his chicks have dark legs so far, when bred to one of my green-legged hens. He is now gone, because I like the hens better.
Now I have a BROWN legged chick! Same hen, but two possible fathers. It could be the last chick from the roo with the slightly green legs, or it is the first chick from a new roo, a white with yellow legs.
So here's the question: do I need to stop breed all green-legged hens, or am I just having weird luck? It's not all bad, because someone got two free chicks last week, that could become really nice birds. They had dark legs, and were from the same pair. I do have a green-legged cockerel from a non-green x green crossing, but the roo had smutty legs. Therefore, I have no idea how to breed these birds!
