Hi, Wondering if anyone in New York State (not Long Island!) New Jersey, or Eastern PA, has any Serama's for sale. We're looking for young ones or maybe hatching eggs.
Please get back to me if you have any or know of someone who does. I do not want to have any eggs shipped...I'm willing to drive to PICK-UP only. As for live birds..I have never bought any and had them shipped, so I'm nervous to do it and would prefer to go get them myself!

Thanks

Is there anyone in the US that TRUELY has seramas that resemble the Malaysian type?! I've not seen any in this thread that truly represent the "Malaysian Serama".

Here are some clear examples of such:

Even the type is evident in chicks...

Now getting away from Malaysia (the country), serama people in Britain are keeping more true to the Malaysian style than the US is. Here are some seramas in the UK:

Again... even the chicks at this young of age have a good showing.

I dunno... I sure wish the Malaysian type was more prevalent here in the US like it is in Britain.

There is one neat hen on the SCNA forum called "Anna Nichole", you should check her out.

Hey if your gonna import put me on that list! I'd be happy to pitch in some $$$$ to get a bird like that.

Bluegrasseramas Mr Wonderful is sooo wonderful

Redbone are those your birds?

Jessi, if you find some... you know I'd go in on some with you! We're only about 4-5 hours away from each other and my wife has family in KY... so I know we could hook up sometime. Please PM me a link for "Anna Nicole" I couldn't find her. You interested in getting a chick or two from her? I'm willing to as$ist.

Chickenaddict, no... they aren't mine. The top ones are pictures from birds in Malaysia... then about half way through that post I've mentioned that the bottom ones are by British people maintaining Malaysian type. It seems like that type has nearly been bred/culled out of the U.S. breeding stock.

When Jerry S. had birds sent over, he trusted and paid someone to pick out some really good ones. He was dissapointed with what he was sent, but we are no longer allowed to import birds from Malaisia. What he got is the foundation of the breed here. He says that quite a few weren't even fertile (hens and cocks), and a lot of them were D class. I cannot imagine that they were as horrible as he thinks they were, but that is our starting point. If you check out the drawings of the Serama standard on the SCNA website, many of your Malaisian pics are very similar to what America is striving for. There are quite a few breeders who are committed to obtaining this standard, and I mean REALLY commited. I applaud them. They are expensive, because for everyone that they deem sellable, they had to feed many others that they refuse to allow into the gene pool. But, alas, they are outnumbered by those who are out to make a buck. I see substandard birds on Ebay all the time (cocks with NO points on their combs, etc.), and there are buyers for these eggs. Granted, the post office will assist in destroying these bloodlines

, but the problem just gets bigger.

I know it would cost alot but do you think that you could indirectly import them from Malaysia through a different country like England or Australia?

That is quite interesting. I had no idea and have possibly underestimated his troubles. The part about the 9/11/2001 stuff is just amazing. What are the chances!

I'm curious how it is that Britain was able to import at the same time the avian flu outbreak occurred. By the pictures that I've found, its evident that their initial stock was better than what Jerry got.
