This page describes the coop with more detail...However, all cages and runs are now occupied, and I could use ANOTHER building just like this...maybe even TWO!!!

Juliette, I LOVE your set up!

We got a ton of scrap wood for free, and made lots of chicken tractors out of it.
Mine also live in Rabbit Hutches that I got for cheap or for free off Criagslist. I stack these indoors, or leave them outside.

Here is one tractor before it was painted and covered with wire...

Here is another.... They are all different shapes and sizes since I dont like using the saw... so I use wood similar in size.

And my first one... Its HUGE... and useful for raising out a lot of young seramas, but it takes 4 people to move...

That is an awesome setup. And here I am building basement aviaries. LOL
I really wish I had a little more land, but I'm guessing it will have to wait until I *finally* get done with school and pay off our current house.

I love everyone's set ups. I just moved mine on Sunday. I had them in cages in the barn but they needed a better place with access to being out on the ground more. I moved them before to some cages on the grass but it was such a hassle and I knew it was all temporary anyway.

I used what I had, a small loafing shed that was made for miniature donkeys. The doorway is just covered with high grade plastic right now but we'll be making a door from plywood and it will have screen and storm window on the top and a flap door on the bottom. It's not a standard size opening for a regular door or I could have used an older storm door we already have. My husband has a smallish window that we're going to add to the front too. Today, I put up the dog pen panels to make a 10 by 10 yard on the front. It has a panel on top covered with chicken wire over the chain link and it's pretty "tight" for small poultry to be safe. Mine are paired up right now and I tried to let a couple pairs out together in the yard but that didn't work, the little roosters wanted to spar so they will all have to learn to live with taking turn being the pair who gets to have free run inside the building and the yard. Before long, it may be too cold to worry about it and they'll be inside most of the time. I am sooo hoping for a mild winter this year!

I wasn't sure how this small shed would work (it's 6 ft by 8 ft) but it's looking like it will work fine and I may figure out a way to put a divider out in the yard so a couple pairs can be out at a time or add some panels like Juliette's (Very Cool!!) to the side by next spring. I set it up in an old raised bed garden that I no longer use and there's room for more dog pen panels to make at least a couple more yards. For now, I'm just thankful to have what I do have and can keep the building warm enough for the water not to freeze.

I'll take some pics when I have it more organized.

What kind of trays do you guys use to catch the droppings in your suspended/stacked cages????

Mine all came with metal drop pans, but Im sure you can make some.... not sure where you would get some flat aluminum stuff or galvanized steel, but it would be easy to bend and you could bolt together the corners......
I cover three sides though to keep out drafts and the bottom few inches to keep in in the shavings. (Thanks Liz for the plastic stuff again!)
Or you can buy them...but I would look into making my own...

OR---You can do it the way I made my sugar glider cage... I bought a shallow plastic storage container, and built my cage around that. I made it where you can slide the plastic tray in and out... I had wire above mine, but I would not do that the second time. Too hard to clean, and it won't hold shavings if you want to use it for birds. I would just leave the bottom open so they can stand in the pan itself.

Sort of like this...

But mine is more like this with the wire over it... (You have to scroll down to see the cage with the grey plastic pans in the bottom)

Also with some of my indoor cages, we reused parts from this wire Cube shelf my brother left here. Pretty sure you can pick these things up at Dollar stores, and Big Lots...They come with connectors and have about 10x10 wire squares. We did something similar to the picture below, building a wooden frame, and using steeples to attach the squares. One of the squares is the door. These I still have to cover a few inches from the bottom to keep in the shavings.

I keep having to borrow pictures, but it's still chilly out. Ill get pics of mine soon.

wire bottoms tend to work better for chickens. The pan in the bottom can be anything. A plastic storage container cut short or a premade metal pan works well too.

I use the plastic bottomed wire small animal cages available at pet stores when i need to house my birds shortly in a cage.

Nice pictures of everyone's "living Quarters"!

Ours serama's (other than those in the brooder or quarantine) are in 10x3 runs in the horse barn. We also use hutches that my DH makes for jouvi's or bachelors. He currently makes singles and doubles. He is also getting ready to make me a coop in our new chicken pen.

It will house my beautiful Black Orpingtons.

I wish your DH were closer... I keep telling mine to get some real hobbies. So he started playing cards with guys from work. Playing card games isn't as good of a hobby as building me stuff, but Oh well.

Sumatra503-- Wire I have in some, but it can tear up feathers... If you want to show your birds, and dont like scrubbing wire, plastic bottoms with deep shavings are the way to go.

The pet cages you mentioned are awesome. I have one next to me with my blue laced pair in it!
Got this one, like new, for $1. at a yard sale! Woot.
