I think he is quite handsome! Looks like his chest is developing very well, and nice color! You will be surprised how much he changes, and how fast!! Good luck with him!!

Oh, and BTW...your table isn't messy!!!

I can't really comment on the tail and the overall quality - I'm new to Seramas too - but I like him.

Thanks Zoomummzy! I too have kids and chickens everywhere, I just like to clean before I take pictures normally, but this time it got away from me!!! I was hoping you had a bit more experience with Seramas since you are so close to me! I have another roo that needs to go, and was hoping you needed a nice guy and had a girl you may want to trade lol, but I guess we are both too new to them! BTW I sent a FB request to you earlier today. Talk to ya soon!

Any other Serama people have opinions?!?!

LOL Thanks!!! I was torn between which roo to keep, but he is smaller then the other one and just so dang sweet I was hoping others with more knowledge of the breed thought he was as nice as I do!

Question: the breeder I got these Serama eggs from said she helps them out if there's no progress after 24hrs from pipping. One is peeping loudly but still not zipping. I'm really not able to go in there and risk the other eggs that are popped! And I'm starting to worry that these little ones will not make it out without help. I know they're hard to hatch, but I WILL get some to hatch by themselves, right?

I know when my Serama eggs hatched I had 8, and between the time the first hatched and the 7th (the 8th never did) it was about 1.5 days. The last one was the smallest and was very weak by the time he got out, but he did eventually get out on their own. I will however admit to helping chicks on rare occasion. I have lost a few chicks when I did not help them, not Seramas, but Marans, so what I tend to do is if they have piped and it has been more then 6 hours and they are just making noises but no longer rocking the egg, I will gently break some of the shell away, but I never tear the sack, they have to be able to do at least that themselves. If it is very dry I will take a q-tip and have it VERY slightly damp so I can keep the "skin" moist enough they don't get shrink wrapped. So I am one of those that "walks the fence line", sometimes I help, sometimes I don't. It boils down to you are really going to have to use your best judgement! Whatever happens best of luck, I love little fuzzy baby Seramas!!!

I just got it, thanks! I'll hit the confirm button. Did we discuss buying Seramas at the end of last year? I know I talked to someone but we never hooked up again. Is this the roo or is there another one? And how loud is the crow? Lol none of my boys have started crowing yet so I don't know what to expect. I will know in about 2 weeks if I have anymore girls from my last hatch and then I have 20 hatching this weekend.

I second this - this is exactly what I do too. I go with my gut. My last hatch had botched humidity during lockdown so all of them were shrunk wrapped. It was a mess. I managed to save 7 but lost a blind one just last week.

No we talked about a Silkie stargazer I had that my son was torn up over and we were trying so hard to help. We eventually lost him, but you were very sweet during the entire thing. The crow is interesting, its not horrible, but it is annoying if they keep up. Mine tend to crow 5-10 times in the morning until they see ME (the kids or hubby dont seem to count lol) and then a bit at night. I have them in a Macaw cage with a cockatiel and perches all over the place, they love it! They jump from perch to perch and run around. So since they are in this cage I cover them at night and it helps, instead of "crowing" (I use the word loosely and you will understand why when yours start to crow) at 6am they wait until around 8:30a.m. As for the roo, it is not the one in the pic, it is his brother who is black and very stunning, but he is slightly larger, and more filled out, he weighs about 5.8 ounces right now. I can show you a pic if you would like.

Now I remember yes,

I had one at the same time as you. Mine is a full grown Barred Rock now, lol crazy as ever but laying eggs everyday. She is inside in a very large cage and very spoiled. Last year was a good year for special need chicks, this year is not. I've lost one already (another blind one) and I have one now with a bad leg that is refusing to eat.

Yes, I'd love to see a photo! I am thinking of similar cages for mine. Right now the plan is for 3 roos, lol but we'll see how that goes when the crowing starts.
