I have one young POL pullet, I don't think she is laying yet, and have had maybe five from a regular layer 2 yrs old) in the last 3 weeks. I am desperate to get the incubator on, but she is stubbornly refusing to lay! Any ideas? I don't want to put up lights on timers as all my other breeds are now laying full swing so I know it's not a daylight issue.

I took my two house seramas, Swordfish and Molly, to an introduction to backyard chickens class yesterday and they were quite well-received!

I was determined not to hatch any more seramas because I end up keeping most of them and because I'm a rescue sort of person who feels bad about breeding anything, but I keep getting calls from people wanting seramas as pets! So I guess my breeding project goes on. My mom is not going to be thrilled, she is constantly telling me I have too many birds and not to get any more! I have some hens on eggs right now and I guess I'll let them keep the eggs, and I'm thinking about starting to collect eggs for the ol' incubator.

Seramas are a bad addiction indeed!

Thanks for all the ideas. Right now I have them in a large dog crate that I had form my Great Dane days. I have sand in the bottum but there is a sawmill up the road where i can get wood shavings. I like the brick idea because they keep filling there water with sand. I think I will cut some thin plywood for around the sides.

Does anyone know where I an get some hens that are not real expensive? Do not want to spend alot for them until I learn more about this whole chicken hobby.

I am not sure who it is in Charlottesville VA. that has seramas but the ones she sold a friend of mine were really typey his daughter bought them for him as a surprise birthday present

You might try hanging the water and the feed. I use a pop bottle waterer that works great!!! No junk can get in, water stays clean. For the feed, I use a clip on cage feeder. Less waste there too.
Best of luck with your Serama!!

Does anyone have Seramas for sale that are in Arizona? I am meeting two ladies in Waddell on Thursday to get chicks from one or both of them, but I would like to find someone who has unrelated birds in Arizona to get a cockerel from. We are building our new Serama coop on Monday

So, I would love to find all of my flock by then, but if not I'll just get my "hopefully" girls from them and keep looking.
Thanks!

Contact Amy Bullock in Casa Grande. She raises very nice and good quality birds. You can also contact her through SCNA.
