Thanks Cathy. I'm not sure what color you would call him. He's a very sweet boy and that's his natural pose. He looks like that all the time but usually holds his tail higher... until I get him out for pictures.

I don't care for his big comb and waddles and I'm hoping his chest improves with age. Some of those 14 chicks that hatched were his and Laylas, so I'm looking forward to see how they mature.

Thanks but I can't take the credit, I bought her and another hen similar to her but so far she's only laid soft shell eggs.

I thought I was the only one that stayed up all night.

Miss Minnie is awesome too!!! I only stay up all night when I'm excited about something, especially something chicken related!

Thanks, she's a sweet girl too and will stay even if she never lays.

Here's one reason I'm up late. I had a very tiny Serama in this last hatch. It's now 12 days old, eats, drinks, poops, runs around and jumps up on things but hasn't grown any that I can tell. It has breathed very fast from right out of the shell and I really didn't expect it to make it but it seems to be a strong chick (loud chirp!!)...just isn't growing and still breaths fast. Has anyone had a chick like this? If so did the chick finally start growing?
I had also hatched some LF eggs for a friend and three of my MF d'Uccle eggs at the same time. I had to take the little one out of their brooder because they were getting so much larger and I was afraid they would hurt it.

It doesn't like being alone, so I tried putting one of the other chicks in with it but they just stood there screaming wanting to go back to play with the others.

It just wants to be held in my hand, so I'm going to try a surrogate mother (a feather duster) and see if this works.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Three days old with Serama siblings.

Hi,
I have a little buff brahma bantam that has hardly grown at all. It is 5 weeks old now and barely any bigger than when I forbid at two weeks old. I ended up moving him out to the main coop with a heat lamp and my two teenage chicks (12 weeks at that time) let the bantam get under their wings like they were the mommy hen. Since then the little one has just thrived but still barely grown. The funny thing is one of tue teenagers (now 15 1/2 weeks) is a roo and he let the little one snuggle under his feathers too

Thanks froggiesheins!! She's still young and I've been giving her supplements. I'm hoping when she goes outside she'll start laying hard shell eggs. In the meantime she's keeping Bruce very happy.

I am by no means an expert, but in my one and only hatch thus far of Seramas, I had a tiny one, he was the last one born. He stayed teeny tiny until about 5weeks old, then started growing. Like you I did not think he would make it! I don't recall him breathing fast, but he was under his mamma for most of that time. What I can tell you is that he is still much smaller then the others, but he is the head rooster!!! Just yesterday he bloodied the comb of the other rooster that came into his territory while they were playing outside! I had to pull them apart, but he is perfectly healthy and happy now at 3.5 mths old! I hope this is the case with yours also! Best of luck!

Thanks Beckie, I had a small one in the last hatch and wasn't sure it would make it either but it was breathing normal and like yours it ruled.....even in the brooder. He's about 11 wks old now and is still smaller than his sibling but he still rules.
big_smile.png

Here's pics of him as a chick. I really need to get more recent pics of them.

No problem! If you go to page 374 in this forum you can see a picture of my little guy! They are soo cute, and unbelievably sweet!!! I have been trying like crazy to find another pullet for my guy, preferably a frizzle, or even some eggs to hatch out, but thus far have had no luck! My son plans to show 2 of our Seramas for 4-H and so every night he hold them, and practices getting them to let him flip them over on their backs, and it constantly amazes me how sweet they are and how they love to be around their humans! Again, good luck with your little one, keep everyone updated!
