Same for me and my Class A hen lays about every 2 days.

What/how do you all catch your birds? I have 4, one roo and 3 little hens in a 12 x 35 pen. 3 of them are 4-5 months old and then one seems to be a little younger. I wasn't really prepared for them so using the top half of a large dog kennel that I bleached for shelter. Just got them Wednesday, and they were scared to death. I want to start handling them but don't want to freak them out.

Do you use a net? If so, is there a certain net that works better, ie., a fishing net, etc.?

Also, do you just leave the rooster in with the hens all the time? The rooster seems to have bonded with one hen in particular and I'm not sure if that's okay or will cause problems later when I get other hens to breed???

They are still pretty cautious, but are starting to move around some rather than stay huddled in the corner.

How often do you give them treats and how much? I don't want them to get too fat and have laying issues!

I'm a super newby so will have lots of questions that have probably already been answered here somewhere, so I apologize in advance.

Just so everyone knows.... I use Game Bird Starter for my new chicks (it's extremely fine), and watered down (mush) medicated chick feed, along with a few granules of Vi-tal in their water. Too much Vi-tal can kill them! I've also read that new born chicks need some parents poop to eat.

But, I haven't tried that yet!

Type accounts for 30 points (of 100) in scoring a Serama...without type, its just not a Serama. These are show quality Silkied Serama. This Champion hen was the highest scoring Silkied Serama at the 2011 Cajun Classic.

It's the way Serama are suppose to look...whether they're Silkied, Frizzled or Smooth. We keep talking about 'type'. Two very basic elements of 'type' are large uplifted chests and short, tight backs....very important to what makes a Serama a Serama.
