......I was thinking of go cat hunting

, then on second thought if all my neighbors can put up with all the noises my roosters make without a complaint, I decided not to do it in order to keep the harmony in my neighborhood. I will just cut my lost and go build a better run to keep those darn cats out.

Bill, its normal for a broody hen poop a large smelly one twice a day when they come out for food and water, there are some do it their nest box.

I always clean it up right away to keep it from stink up the whole place.

I was so happy! [sorry all]. When my gremlins are out I am with them constantly OR in my mobile cage I have metal screening over the chicken wire so NOTHING can get in. Joey, maybe try the screening on your fuzzie cage? I hope so....

Yup, humongous dog sized

poops are normal. With Beeps I fed her breakfast in bed [gave her fruit/hard boiled egg, corn, crumbles & black oil sunflower seeds ~~ just a few pieces of each] and then every afternoon I pried her off the nest for some nookie w/ me and to make sure she drank some water. I wanted to make sure she got protiens and starch to keep her strength up. Worked well for me. Hope this was a good thing I did for her~~ what do you'all BYCers thing about this?

That sucks Joey! My cats are indoors and my chicks are indoors in the brooder. My cats sit in the room and watch "chicken TV!" They love sitting and just watching literally for hours but they never try to even touch them. I think my parrots trained them to be fearful of anything with feathers.

We have had major problems with cats here, but the are feral cats that nobody feeds. They are wild and carry fleas and diseases. I use to feel sorry for them until they ate every single one of my seramas (3 silikie seramas, also) and then sprayed inside my car(more than once). Now we do not let the chickens out of the coop unless we are watching. WE are rebuilding the run part and are going to burry the hardware cloth and also put the cloth on the top so the cats cant climb and get it. We haven't shot any yet, not that I haven't wanted to. There is probabaley at least 50 feral cats and they all keep breeding more and more.

Are that cats that got your seramas someones pets, if so I would take to them and tell them that the next time you see them they will be shot. That would be enough to scare me into keeping an eye on my cats. Don't get me wrong I love cats, but there are predators that can get them too...cars and coyotes. We never let our pet cat out and the one day we did the neighbors dog got it and broke its leg.

Sorry you lost some to the dang cats!

I keep my serama's in a cool basement in large cages. A couple pet ones have free range down there in the 30 ft. by 50 ft. space!

I use a 10 ft. by 10 ft. dog kennel pen right outside the basement door. I placed shade cloth and netting on top and deer netting all around sides to keep the wild birds out and my yard chickens from picking thru the panels at them.

They are carried out and placed in kennel during the day when I am home to watch them.

I weigh the fact that they need to be a chicken yet they are so tiny and on everything's menu...

Anyone wanna help me? my golden Duckwing rooster is getting over agressive when mateing he put hen in water and mater her 4 times what should I do?
