I'd try Mallards, if your wanting to keep it small, but i wouldn't wait too long to make the decision if your worried about your duck being over bred by your drake. Have you checked craigslist in your area for calls?Call ducks are the smallest ducks. I don't know if a mallard duck will be okay? They are smaller than regular ducks.
How old is she? if over 5 months she should be laying. at least by 7 months old. you haven't seen them mate? what is he doing to her then? just beating her up? They can be pretty rough on them when mating and if they are both over 6 months old I'd say they have to be mating or you have 2 of the same sex.Can my female duck wait a little bit? I want to hatch some calls but scared it will take too long. I haven't gotten any eggs (EVER) from my call duck yet. Is that why the male is working on her so much? I haven't seen them mate, but that's what I guess.
