Male Mallard mating before she's laying does that mean im close?!?!?!

O'k my male mallard (Wade) just started mating with my female (Waddle) does that mean she is close to laying her first egg??? there both almost 5 months !!!!!!!!!!! thank you for your help!

My pekins were mating for several weeks before we got the first egg.

My mallards haven't layed yet and they're over 30 weeks. I have seen them mating since they were around 24-25 weeks. I've heard that mallards only lay in spring and early summer.

It is probable that your mallard will not lay until next spring. They are primarily seasonal layers.

I think their done laying eggs now. I have Rouen & Golden Cascade ducks, their both done laying. ~Julie~

i just aquired a mallard hen from a friend that is moving and she is laying eggs still. i have had her 2 days adn have gotten 2 eggs. to bad the male had dissapeared a couple weeks ago or i would incubate.

I would incubate still, they might be fertile. Two weeks, if the drake mated with her before then the eggs could be good

At lease you would know for sure in 4 or 5 days when you candle them. ~Julie~
