We have some chicks that are going on 2 months old. 3 are barred rocks. Where we got them from they said they are normally 95% sure they are female but once in a while they get some Roos. Well, we are not good at determining if they are male or female at this age except just watching some temperamental behaviors. One of our Barred Rocks I can't help but wonder if it is a Roo. He is very friendly and silly acting. We have a huge tote we keep them in with chicken wire on top. When I go outside to check on them, that particular chicken constantly jumps up at the wiring almost like a kangaroo. Bounces. It is really funny so we named her Jumping Jill. Now we think it might be Jumping Jack. When we take them outside. he runs around almost like a cat high on cat nip. It bounces side ways just like a cat would do. It flies and jumps and acts really crazy. My husband thinks it is possessed. It gets down real low with its head like a Roo and acts like it is going to attack you. It is funny to watch but also kinda concerning for this chicks age. Also another thing I have noticed with the other two Barred Rocks, their feathers are coming in all crazy like, curling up at the ends. Where the one I think might be a male, its feathers are still real smooth and not fluffy.
Could this possibly be a Roo? Is this normal behavior at such an age?

Behavior is not normally a good indicator of gender at this age. Both males and females will act this way sometimes, chest bump and challenge each other. Best if you post photos then we can help you out with the genders.
If you do choose to post photos, please make sure they are clear photos in natural light with a good side view of the whole bird and a good close-up of the comb area. Good luck!😊

Normally you can tell with barred rocks at a very young age from the shape and amount of white on their heads, by two months, the difference is less pronounced. With some pictures these folks should be able to help with a gender ID. Behavior is not definitive at that young...
