I have two Blue Swedish ducks. This is there first year laying. I'm really confused. I have no idea if there male and female. I think they are. Here's my problem.

I see them mating but I've also read that two females will act that way without a male around.
I'm getting way more than just 1 to 2 eggs a day making me think again we have two females.
This is there first year mating so I have no past to look too.
No eggs have hatched yet but its not time either.

Do I just have to wait and be patient to see if the eggs hatch so to determine if I have a male and a female?

Help

This maybe a little graffic but If you want to be sure this is what i'd do, when you see the 2 in the pool or on ground as soon as you see them doing the deed be ready to catch the one who is on top, pick him/her up and turn over should be able to see the drakes corkscrew penis sticking out. Or if on ground when mating after they finish you should be able to see it if you look quickly. Maybe put a tie wrap around ones leg if they are so closely look alikes to be able to tell if it's the same duck always on top. Or you could put their eggs into the bator or hope one goes broody and wait to see if any ducklings hatch, but if your getting 2 eggs a day and only have 2 ducks I'm thinking you have 2 females and one is being the dominant of the 2 or they are switching back an forth. My girls have done this and I have drakes.

Good idea Lydia.

You could also check the voices. If they have LOUD quacks, then its a girl, if they have very soft quacks, almost raspy, like Donald duck, then its a boy. Also, boys will have curly tail feathers. Girls won't usually.

You know DG having Muscovies i forget about the tail feather, and raspy voices.

if you have eggs in the incubator then just candle them.
no need to wait 28 days on infertile eggs
if they are fertile after 7-10 days you will see veining
