Hello, I have recently bought myself 3 chicks which were apparently sexed when born (not sure how they were sexed to be fair). They are only 4 days old but I’m convinced I’ve cockerels. Can someone give me advice on what to look for? I have a Rhode Island Red x light Sussex and 2 rhode rock.🙈

Rhode Rocks are hybrids so they were likely sexed at hatch, but if you’re concerned with the sex you’re best waiting until they’re at least 6 weeks, then, if they have large red combs they’re males. Or update on here if you’re still uncertain The LSxRIR makes sex linked chicks (if the RIR was the father), males are white, females are red/brown. If that wasn’t the case then you’ll have to wait and do the same as with the RR.

Thank you for your response. My x is yellow/whitish with a greenish tinge but maybe I’ll wait a bit longer !

The green is dye they put on the chick.

overall, 4 days is too young to sex except by a professional vent sexer. If you wait till 6-8 weeks we can help you out much easier.
Is it really! Wow I had no idea they did they did that. I was half hoping for an exotic green bird 😂. Okay, will come back to this thread in a few more weeks if I still have trouble identifying. Thank you!
