6 week old (hybrid ?) barred rock. I have two of these chicks. One feathered out a lot sooner than the other, especially the tail. The fast feathering one has a up tail, the slow one in pic has down tail. Other than the tail they are the same color and size. Does this mean anything? I only put pic of slow feathering one on here. They comb doesn’t look reddish in person. It’s more yellow.

Tails and the rate at which they feather out are both not good indicators of gender for chicks. Size can be a factor when comparing, but since yours are the same size there is nothing to be learned. The main things to look at are combs and wattles, up until they are 16 weeks of age or so.

Looking at this one, there is a little bit of development in the comb but it's still relatively small, and it is showing no red coloring. So I think it is a pullet. But it's a good idea to update in a couple of weeks if the comb changes a lot.

Ok thanks so much. I am hoping they are both pullets because they are so friendly. I would hate to get rid of one because it was a cockrel. Time will tell.

Here’s pics of both chicks:
