How can you tell if your goslings are male or female at 4 weeks of age? Or is there even a way? I've got the 3 Africans and when I got them, they were all the same size. One of them now stands out much more than the other two because it's so big. It also acts as if it's the boss. Always watchful and the first to complain to me for whatever reason.
Thanks.

I have touloose and embden, and if there is a way to sex them as goslings I didn't know. I just watched their behavior and size. Now that they are of breeding age I know for sure I got it right lol

You can vent sex them, it's done in basically the same manner as you would do a rabbit. Other than that, you just have to wait till they lay eggs or not, there's no sure-fire way to tell with non-autosexing breeds.

A pet store gave me a "male" rabbit and boy was I in for a surprise when I got "him" home and sexed it. Turned out to be a female that was also pregnant.

Lesson learned!

When my geese were younger then the before I knew the gender then the male was bigger and acting a little more over our female! And just a quick thought, how do you vent sex???

Hope this help!

Like you would a rabbit. Turn the baby over on its back, pull the tail down, and press lightly around the vent. If it pokes out, its a boy, if it doesn't, its a girl. You will probably think you aren't doing it right if you happen to try on girls only, but once you find a male, you'll know it. I've only done it with 1 (I've only hatched 2 geese ever, but have more 'cookin'

), and thought it was a girl until it started laying eggs. Then I knew I was right. My other is a male, though I didn't vent sex it. I wish I would have, then I'd know I was doing it right. Just be very gentle, and don't keep the baby on its back for too long. You can do it with older geese as well, same way.
