male quail is pecking the female repeatedly

This is kind of an old thread, I’m not sure how many people will see it. I’m not so familiar with buttons, but are they harming each other? Could it be a male trying to figure out how to mount the hen? If it’s not doing harm and he’s just trying to mount her, they usually get more coordinated as they age, but start out grabbing feathers anywhere on the head and pulling, sometimes in young males I’m pretty sure they don’t even understand what it is they’re supposed to be doing, but know it involves grabbing head and neck feathers. you can try to see if you separate them for a day they might get along better when you put them back together.
Thank you

Actually, the (thought to be) male has loss of head feathers. He has also started ’attacking’ my hand when im putting in cucumber or collecting an egg. The (thought to be) female seems quite healthy. She runs away from the other one. I recently got a bigger cage that could fit 3 so that he isn’t obsessing over one female. I just separated them (just a wall between them) and the male was running up and down the wall, trying to get through. they‘ve been together probably since birth.

Not sure what the male would do if they were separated for too long

If those don't work, maybe you should butcher him. That's what we did for a male chicken that repeatedly pecked everybody else for very odd and mean ways (such as not letting others get to food or water).
Our male will do that if she keeps getting away from him, they are both in an indoor rabbit cage and have plenty room but I think she is going crazy from his insistence so she continues to peak at nothing and driving me crazy with the sound.
