male to female ratio

Relax! It really is okay. People do raise Mallards as domestic ducks. I know people call Rouens "domestic Mallards", but your ducks are domestic. They truly are. Look around the site and you'll see that all sorts of folks here raise Mallards.

I've never clipped wings and never had a problem with my ducks flying away. Yours sound pretty bonded to their home. I wouldn't worry. In fact, I prefer it when mine can fly. It's an added tool for them in avoiding or escaping predators.

Definitely do consider changing your male to female ratio. Everyone will be much happier in the long run.

It's true - I have 2 of them, both males, hatched by a local breeder sometime around June 8th of this year. They're just about finished growing their primary flight feathers, at which point I'll clip their wings. I also keep all of my pens covered with deer netting to keep hawks out, and ambitious duckies in.

I can never bear to get rid of extra drakes - so I have a separate girl and boy pens, well out of sight of one another, and I'm currently working on building a breeding pen as well.

Oh - and it's fine to eat fertilized eggs. Just make sure you collect them everyday - Mallards are excellent mothers and yours would most likely hatch her own eggs if you let her.

Yes, I'm realizing I need to do a complete makeover of their enclosure since they keep flying out.
